When you stop to think about how much has changed over the past 10-20 years and how much it has affected our society, it stops you in your tracks. The growth of dependence on cell phones, email, facebook, twitter, etc. has created an unspoken pressure among our society to constantly stay up-to-date with so many things that, in all actuality, don’t really matter.

We are so caught up in everything that is happening around us.We are focused on things that are happening tomorrow, next week, month or even years from now. We stress about our finances, health, gossip and everything else that ends up on that nagging, seemingly endless, to-do list. Our priorities are completely unorganized. In return, we feel like we can never “get it all done.” We definitely don’t remember, or even think, to take the time to slow down and enjoy the things that we have right in front of us and to recognize the beauty in it – and once we can, our many tasks at hand somehow seem to get done and we find enjoyment in the process. Life is about finding the joy in the challenges that we face on a day-to-day basis.

A Change In Mindset is A Change In Our Life

Many people are scared of change, but it is not as difficult as many people make it out to be. To change is as simple as a change in mindset. When we think “Gosh, I have so much to do today, I don’t know how I’m going to get it all done…and I have to do this too….and, and and…” we become stressed out and before we know it, the day is over and we haven’t accomplished half of what we thought we needed to do. We are a ball of stress and exhausted. We tend to live the “get-it-done” lifestyle. So many people today that you see become engulfed in their career, families and keeping up with everyone else. They become so busy and reach a stress high that they live in, they’re constantly feeling exhausted and can just barely keep it together day by day. If you asked them what they do it for, they probably wouldn’t even be able to begin to answer you, or you’d receive the response, “because I have to.” If this is you, STOP!

When you wake up in the morning, stop and look out of your window and be thankful that the sun is shining and you have another day to LIVE. After all, isn’t that what we’re on this earth for? To live? How difficult is it to sit down and make a list of things that need to be done. Do it. Then, see what can be eliminated. Does everything REALLY need to be done, today, now, this minute? Where can you make some time for yourself? It seems like common sense, but how many people forget?

We have become of a society of NOW NOW NOW. You have to decipher what is most important. If you can’t get it all done in the time you have, plan to carve out another time when you can do it. By doing this, you allow yourself the luxury of enjoying the beautiful day you have been given. You have the time to notice things along the way, to ponder on it and recognize the beauty in it. By planning things out and staying in control of your life you have the time to actually enjoy your life and everything that you’re doing. We all have to do some things that we don’t particularly enjoy, maybe your job or cleaning the house – but think of the benefits of receiving that paycheck and being able to go out and enjoy a nice dinner with your friends or spouse, or being able to come home and relax in a clean house. Turn on the music and get out the mop! There truly is a benefit and a positive aspect of everything we do, or else why would we be doing it? Its all the way you perceive things. When you are able to start eliminating the small things, it becomes easier start eliminating the big things that make us unhappy or stress us out. We learn how to make changes to our life to make it more pleasant and truly enjoy everyday and be thankful for it.

When we can plan, take a deep breath and find the positives in every situation, opportunity or challenge that we are given we can make time for ourselves and really live our lives to the fullest and enjoy everything around us that we have the opportunity to be surrounded by. No matter how busy our lives may seem, there is time to take a minute and think about all of the positive things in our lives.

Do you perceive beauty? Do you stop to appreciate it? Do you revel in the time you have been given to enjoy what you have been given? If not, make a change. Start by focusing on the positives and if you can’t find anything positive, then find a way to eliminate it from your life. Our lives are too busy to be wasting time on things that don’t make us happy. When you are stressed take a deep breath and focus on your priorities. You can do it. Start small and big changes will happen. It’s guaranteed.
